Ghost is another master piece by Ashleigh Zavarelli.

I couldn’t think she could write a better story than Crow, but she did that with first Reaper and now Ghost.

She created a world so intricate and complex, with so many competing forces it keeps you on the edge of your sit.

Ghost, to me was the hardest book to read (and if you read Reaper, you know that says a lot).

Be warned, Ghost isn’t an easy book to read simply because its REAL!

The writing is amazing as always, the characters are complex, flawed, scarred , scary, and yet you find yourself rooting for them.

Ghost tells the story of Talia – Mack's friend from Crow (book #1 in the series(.

We learn Talia was sold as a sex slave by a man who pretended to love her.

Talia's POV from the moment she learns of the betrayal, her bleak present and her life as a sex slave were the hardest parts to read.

I made myself read every word Ashleigh Zavarelli wrote, because Talia deserved that.

We had to learn what she went through, what she was feeling, or more accurately, how she dealt with the pain (both physical and emotional) and how she learned to distance herself in order to survive.

And Talia did SURVIVE.

And she found herself married to Alexei.
Why would a person of Alexei's rank in the Russian mafia be interested in a marriage with her?

Alexei was a puzzle.

We know he is lethal, we know he has power. But why does he live like a ghost? Why does he rarely leave the house he built for himself?

Talia and Alexei have a rocky beginning to say the least.

Talia survived but the past still haunts her and the present isn’t better: married to a Stanger who only seeks one thing from her.

Talia and Alexei have an intense connection. The this emotional one and the overwhelming physical one.

Talia learned to enjoy sex, even if she liked it with a bit of pain. And Alexei was more than willing to oblige.

Alexei promised to protect Talia always, but he kept himself closed off emotionally.

He didn’t trust her 100% , despite Talia giving him everything she had and was.

We saw how that lack of trust hurt Talia in a brutal way when Alexei believed she betrayed him.

I admired Talia for the actions she took, reconnecting with Mack and even hiding something important from Alexei.

In the end, she knew how to forgive him and Alexei knew how to show her he cherishes her, and give her everything, even his love.

Ghost by Ashleigh Zavarelli is a must read to book lovers.

GHOST Boston Underworld Book 3 edition by A Zavarelli Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

"He’s my king, and I’m his queen. And we would do anything to protect each other."

Just finished GHOST by A. Zavarelli and am basking in sweet euphoria! Omg! It was PURE PERFECTION! Although this is the third installment in the Boston Underworld series, it was actually my first book by this mega talented author so I can fully attest that it can be definitely be read as a standalone. After reading this splendid masterpiece, I am officially hooked on this author's writing and this phenomenal series!!!

There are literally not enough words to describe what an impact this highly addictive page-turner had on me! It is teeming with drama and intrigue, violence and tranquility, hope and despair, darkness and light, SCORCHING hot passion, and so many INTOXICATING feels my heart nearly burst from sensory overload!

I relish a story about two deeply flawed lovers with tortured souls and this dark mafia romance about a high ranking Russian mobster named Alexei, a fiercely proud man harboring a devastating, shameful secret, who rescues Talia, a traumatized sex slave, from a life of misery and abuse and abject horror after she was kidnapped and forced into the brutal world of human sex trafficking, rocked me to the core!

These two kindred spirits have suffered mightily at the hands of those who were supposed to love and nurture and shelter them. Yet through the grace of God their paths collide when they are at their lowest points and they end up bringing one another back from the brink before they both plunge down the dark abyss.

My heart just ached for these characters as they struggle with residual grief, mind-numbing depression, severe distrust, hopelessness and despair, yet at the same time, I quietly rejoiced that Alexei and Talia have found each other...a tiny glimmer of light amid all the suffocating pain and sorrow. He is her savior, and she is his, and their tragic pasts--and an all-consuming lust for each other--are the common threads that binds them to each other.

Despite the danger and treachery and uncertainty swirling around them, “Solnyshko" and "Lyoshkal" are one another's lifeline, clinging together against all odds and bring comfort and joy and sunlight into each other's turbulent worlds. I love their soul-deep connection and although Alexei is a strong formidable mafia man who no one dares to double-cross, his brand of tender loving dominance that he bestows on his deeply troubled new bride, who has been conditioned to derive pleasure from pain, was utterly breathtaking.

"He is my solace and I am his sun"

Their hearts are splintered but somehow the broken shards miraculously fit together and make then whole. That's not to say life is easy and that the ghosts of the past don't still haunt them. They still have their crushing lows and black days and painful struggles but they fight for each other through thick and thin and know deep down that even in their moments of acute sadness and desolation that the sheer force of their love will see them through even the gloomiest storms.

I would be remiss if I did not give a shoutout to A. Zavarelli's writing prowess! Her gift for penning an unflinching foray into the raw, oftentimes gory underpinnings of the violent mob world and entwining those darker elements with spellbinding romance and angst and exquisite tenderness is utterly breathtaking!

“I will make you mine all over again. Every day, for the rest of my life, Solnyshko. That is my promise to you. I will make you fall in love with me every day for a lifetime.”

Sighhhh!! Reading this book was such a visceral experience. My pulse was racing and shivers raced up my spine throughout and there were so many heartmelting, toe-curling, tearjerker moments along the way it was an embarrassment of riches! And the overarching mafia plot was brilliantly crafted. There were many riveting twists and turns and gasp-worthy revelations throughout that kept me on the edge of my seat. Yet the dramatic payoff was worth all the emotional upheaval, heartache and trepidation I was forced to endure. In fact, the denouement was so flawlessly executed, a beautiful culmination of a sweetly tender, EXPLOSIVELY SEXY, epic love that was sorely tested but miraculously survived the catastrophic fallout, I couldn’t help but SWOON!

In closing, GHOST is hands down among my Top 5 Dark Romance reads of 2016, and this book made an unabashed Boston Underworld Fangirl out of me!
This is the first book I've ever read by Ms. Zavarelli, but it won't be the last. The first part of the book is extremely graphic and even horrifying in places as it describes Talia's capture and sale as a sex slave in a human trafficking ring. Her owner sells or permits the use of her body every night to his friends and business associates.

The story tears deeply into your emotions as it describes how broken she is when she is saved by Alexei. He is a high ranking member of the Russian Mafia, with the kind of connections and lifestyle that enables him to get Talia away from the man who currently owns her. After he has her in his custody, he takes steps to ensure that she will remain with him, at least so long as he thinks he can trust her.

She struggles every day just to wake up not wanting to kill herself. Alexei is equally flawed and not just emotionally; he harbors a secret that could be deadly to him should it become known. Together, the two of them must heal each other if they are to survive.

The book was well written and alternated between Alexei and Talia in first person. As expected in a book dealing with the Russian Mafia, there were sections that dealt with extreme violence as well as the use of profanity. This, combined with the graphic sex certainly makes this a book that will not be suitable for everyone. But if you're up for the challenge, you won't be sorry you read it. Great job, Ms. Zavarelli!
